Would You Change a Baby Diaper Without Using a Wipe?
69Disposable wipes are only used about half the time an incontinence product is changed. Many people do not think much about it but not washing the skin after changing incontinence products can actually lead to a rash or even worse, a urinary tract infection. It is important to cleanse the skin to remove the urine from the skin and to prevent the skin from getting irritated. Changing the adult diapers frequently will also help to prevent some of these issues as well.
Like any situation that you dealing with, it is important to always be prepared. Purchasing the right incontinence products and properly using them will prevent embarrassing accidents from occurring and it will also be able to prevent other issues as well like rashes and urinary tract infections as you learn to properly care for your genitals. Using disposable wipes will help you to cleanse the genitals after each time you change your underwear. This is the best way to properly care for your body and to manage your incontinence problem.
Flushable wipes are easier to deal with as you won’t need to have a separate trash can to dispose of them. This helps to keep the restroom sanitary and will be easier for you to clean. However if you use disposable incontinence products you may prefer to get a separate garbage can that will allow you to dispose of the pads and also to dispose of the wipes.
Part of choosing incontinence products also comes down to understanding your situation and determining which products will be able to work best for you. Some people find that using disposable diapers are easier but the cost can become very expensive which leads many people to use washable incontinence underwear. No matter which product you choose, you must calculate out the cost of it and to know yourself and your situation to figure out which one you will actually use and which one is comfortable for you.
If you are helping a loved one that is using incontinent products it is important that you create a technique with the elderly individual in order to properly cleanse their genitals when you change the pads. Many people will use sterile towels or pads to place them on when they change them (in the same manner as an infant) and you roll them on their side to clean the skin with the wipe. You will need to roll them to their other side as well to properly remove the urine from the skin. It also helps to be in good shape as you will need to lift them and move them around to clean them. Before placing the new adult diaper on, always make sure their skin is dried in order to prevent a rash from occurring.
Speak with your loved ones primary care physician as they can give you tips on how to change your loved ones adult diapers. They may even have referrals that they can pass onto you in order to help you manage your loved one and their incontinence problems. It is important that you ask the doctor about rash treatments and what to do if they do develop a rash. Never use powder as this will dry it out and you want to use diaper rash ointment if there is already a rash.
With so many helpful products on the market, managing incontinence is much easier than it used to be and you will be able to find a number of resources to help caregivers of elderly loved ones.

As a father of 4 (now grown) children I can honestly say I've used just about every product for the care of babies bottoms ever marketed or suggested. As for adult incontinence I can only go with what I know, namely this goes on a case by case basis. The only truly universal cure for rashes, etc. is lots of flowing water, sunlight, and nudity. Easy if you're only a toddler, a bit more difficult for grown adults-unless you happen to live in Polynesia or some other place where clothing is optional.
